Hardy BENNETT, born 5 Aug 1788
in GA. He resided in Franklin Co, GA; TN (about 1812 and possibly before until about 1818); Pickens Co, AL (about 1818-1835); and Carroll Co, Mississippi (about 1835 and probably until his death). Hardy served in the War of 1812 from December 20, 1813, to February 8, 1814, having enlisted at Fayetteville, Tennessee. He received a total pay of $40.87 for his service. Hardy's first wife was Zilpha SANDERS,

children, one of them was young Leroy Polk BENNETT.
My relationship calculator does not give
this relationship a name but it is her Grandfather's son (but not her
Grandmother's son) and is her Father's half-brother. Is this a half-uncle? Leroy

Hi Max, One of my cousins stumbled
on your website and forwarded it to me. We see very similar names in
your group but can't fit them with ours. Our first known for sure Bennett
was Benjamin born 1772 in NC or SC. His father is "said to be"
John...no proof other than family work done in the 1o920's and documentation was
not copied and has been lost. 1-2-1786 John received a Continental Bounty
for 230 acres in Franklin Co, GA. A William B. and Richard B. also
received bounties of 230 acres. Tax rolls show several Bennetts
congregated in Franklin/Elbert but we don't know how they may be related except
for one who put his son into an apprenticeship. Other facts:
c. 1792 Benjamin married Delilah (possibly a Langston)

Hi Max, Thanks for the reply. Yes,
the index is from the recently released Bennett book II, an update of the first
edition in 1998. Unfortunately, the book was sold by pre-reserved order
and the 8 or so "extra" copies she ordered were sold before it got off
the press. Her printer said that they would do reprinting in groups
of 10 minimum, so the rest of us are telling those who may be interested to drop
her a note and ask to be put on the reprint list. I'm not sure what the reprint
price will be, but the "big batch" of 120 (I think) was $50 per book.
It's loaded with maps, documents, photos, charts, about 12,000 individuals
on 421 standard letter size pages, hardbound. Each of the 9 children was
treated as a chapter within the book and each chapter has it's own color of
paper. Really cool and very effective. The compiler is:

She is a retired teacher "over 65" and it's amazing that she got the
update done due to a health problem last year. Like many of us, she could
not afford to have a supply of books sitting around waiting for prospective
buyers, so therein lies the problem in getting one. Two of us are working
on some corrections that need to be made in our own books as well as the
ones we pooled money for and bought for 4 libraries....my local genealogy
society in Hattiesburg, MS, the MS Dept of Archives, the Ocean Springs, MS
library and Clayton Library in Houston, TX. From the gist of your web

I'm assuming that you're in the Huntsville area so these locations won't be of
much use.
As a "better than nothing" idea, I will send you a 3 generation
outline chart from my own FTM files. Evedene copyrighted the book, so it couldn't
be put on a website anyway....and there would be a bunch of angry people if it did happen as many were very reluctant to have their families listed in a
small circulation book. The "index on the web" was to facilitate
the
questions we were receiving from posts we had made about the book and the
reserved orders needing to be placed.
Let me know if you want the chart. It could be put with the info I sent
you already, wouldn't violate the privacy of any living people, and folks would have a pretty good idea if it might be their line. I'd be willing to be
listed for lookups for the present time, and there might be a couple of others with whom I communicate regularly who would be willing to
participate.

Hi Max, Here's the 3 generations from my file. The
"particulars" from my first message can preface this, I suppose, as I
can't think of anything else that would need to be said.
Transplants are OK. :-) I was born and raised in south MS,
left with first husband and spent 20 years in Iowa, came back 20 years to the
month later with second husband...an IA native and retired Army COL. My
younger son, 35, born and raised in IA, came to MS with us and now he and
his wife of 7 months live next door to me (my husband died in 1999). Jeff
is doing his own "HGTV project" and took a turn of the century
Victorian near downtown Hattiesburg half apart (decapitated it) and cut it in
half front to back to move it 13 miles out here on part of my acreage in the
country. Mom's genealogy has shown him just how deep his roots are
here, because he sure felt like a duck out of water!
My older son lives in St. Pete, FL. Both were from my first marriage, and
their dad died in WTC....was there on business from IA. His parents were
from Haleyville and Birmingham area and moved to MS in 1952.
All of these bits and pieces to finally tell you that I descend from Benjamin
through his son Isaac, and then from Isaac's daughter Amanda E. Bennett who
married Henry Sumrall. Henry and Amanda were a set of my paternal great
grandparents.
I hope this will help tie our family into the GA/NC/SC family and we can
finally get the scoop on Benjamin's ancestors!!
